Considered Canada's gateway to Alaska
and the Queen Charlotte
Islands, Prince Rupert is located on the hauntingly beautiful coastline of
Northern B.C., approximately
a seven hour drive west of Prince
George. Prince Rupert is a transportation hub, offering access to Port
Hardy and the Alaska Marine Highway via boat, and all places in Mainland B.C.
via railway and highway. The Totem poles of the Haida and Tsimpsean Aboriginal
tribes are scattered throughout this picturesque city, especially in Totem
Park, which also offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Over 10,000 years
of Aboriginal history can be explored at the Museum
of Northern BC, located in the historic Chatham Village Longhouse. Marine
enthusiasts have the chance at once-in-a-lifetime encounters with killer whales,
while anglers can track that elusive catch on one of many fishing excursions.
Landlubbers can explore the lush, coastal rainforest that surrounds Prince Rupert
at one of several parks, including Prudhomme
Lake and Diana
Lake Provincial Parks.
